Otto Schmidt’s struggling costume shop is in financial trouble because its eccentric owner is more interested in inventing complicated gadgets than running the business. When creditors install a new manager, romantic complications arise with Schmidt’s niece while Ted and a group of inept firemen attempt to help straighten things out. Costumes, misunderstandings, improbable inventions, and an actual fire ultimately bring the various schemes together in a burst of slapstick confusion.
